Introduction to Latin Ballroom Dancing

Other Family Vacation Options

Starting its journey from Latin America and the Caribbean, Latin dancing has now conquered almost every continent and every country in the world.  The fashion involved and the passion of it has made it a very much accepted activity amongst all levels of the society.

Cha-cha, rumba, samba, salsa, tango, and many more variations of ballroom dancing bring out a unique style of dancing.  However currently only rumba, samba, Paso, cha-cha and jive are reckoned as the set of international ballroom dance. Social dancing has a mixture of dances that come from different origins. Yet everyone identifies them as Latin ballroom dancing.

The music for each dance varies. For example, the music that is used for Salsa is not used for Jive. The steps differ making it difficult to dance for the same music.

Competitions held regarding ballroom dancing are very hugely popular in United States of America. These professionals compete against each other once or twice a season to test and show off their talents and the new innovations. You do not have to get disappointed if you are still an amateur while there are competitions for the amateurs as well. You can also take place in a Pro- Am category to get exposed to the pros.

Enroling in a Latin ballroom dancing class will give you the opportunity of dancing with several partners. Although it is advisable to stick to one partner if your plan is to learn dancing as a competitive sport, dancing with several partners lets you identify your mistakes and helps you improve with time. Latin ballroom dancing provides you with certain steps and techniques. These should be taken as the base for something new and unique. Dancing with your partner will help you come up with slight variations to the initial moves, increasing the glamour and style in your dancing capabilities.

Although many Latin dancing world champions are from Europe it is slowly but promisingly developing in United States as well. It is evident from U.S. National Dancesport Champions that the level of dancing has improved and more and more youngsters are getting involved. With many quality Latin ballroom dance instructors you can teach yourself this wonderful art easily. Finding a better instructor should not be a problem with the help of the internet. Many websites are dedicated these days for ballroom dancing, hence you can find all the required information.

Various Entertaining Matters You Could Have by Selecting Disney World Vacations

Other Family Vacation Options

Most American think that Disney world vacations are most suitable for children. There are many travel agencies that provide low prices for very popular packages that you can design according to individual wishes. For example, the included services will be pre-selected according to your preferences, the time you want to spend, the number of family members, the time of the year for which you make the reservations and so on.

The offer for Disney world vacations seems to be more advantageous for 2009 than it was for 2008, particularly in the context of world financial crisis. There have been considerable discounts granted in comparison with last year’s rates. For instance, if a 4-member family paid 00 for six nights and seven days in a Disney world resort, lots of packages are now available for around $ 1100 . Which points out that the savings are considerable, and if you shop around, you can get very good offers.

Here are some more strategies to save money on Disney world vacations. You should first try to compare the various offers and see which is more advantageous and suitable for your family. Do the same thing for hotel rooms. Prices could be tricky for accommodation because there are many properties that do not provide the comfort level that you may expect. At least with a travel agency you are certain to book something nice.

Disney world vacations do not cover sightseeing tours. Remember that you are taking some time off to relax and have fun. When paying for a tour and thus committing to it, you will be under pressure all the time, and other people will decide how you spend your vacation. It is better to choose those packages that do not have tours included, and you will pay less and be able to select what, when and where you want to visit local attractions.

In terms of destinations, there are four major theme parks that you can visit as part of Disney world vacations: Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.Plan things carefully, because you will have to spend lots of money once you get there. Find out all you can about kids itineraries, park admission fees, age and height requirements, and inquire about special entertainment events. Each of these elements only add up to the rest of the factors (time of the year and vacation budget), making important premises for the success of your vacation.

When it comes to Disney World Vacation and you have to go with your baby, it is important for you to bring all things your baby’s need. Are you interested in finding these? You can check out infant girl clothes and toddler boy clothes sites where you can get useful information for your baby’s comfort need.

Tapas and TEFL Spain courses come together as one

General Talk About Vacations

Madrid has a lot to offer, whether it be relaxing in the many, beautiful plazas watching the sun slowly retir. Para mi, being a TEFL graduate for only a few months, the events leading up to the night’s fun in the best part. The bookends of the night are caňas and tapas. Let me present, ‘caňas y tapas’. This combination can of course be coddled in at any time…

The ultimate edible morsels I have come across in Spain have been served with caňas. Caňas are small, being served in a mini glass, and are the perfect coupling with a idle Sunday afternoon. Whichever one, fantastic tapas is always served up.

My first caňa and tapas experience was in Plaza de Espana, just off Grand Via in a very loud, typically Spanish tapas joint. This bar compels you to stand, which is not as appalling as made out. The bar makes a very useful prop and you feel exceptionally Spanish ordering caňas whilst making small talk. The bartenders were highly amusing and happy to help and whet the appetite. The first dish they present is fried chip potatoes covered in a delicious oily, garlic sauce. With these potatoes came three chorizo sausages. My Spanish friend and I eagerly dig in. I don’t think you should chose the garlic sauce on a first date, wow. It was magnificient. The chorizo was the best bit, completely disappearing in my mouth and making me want to order more from the waiters! Another caňa, another tapa. Next up was baby squid in a rich, divine tomato salsa. Fondly remembering the day I decided to come to Madrid, we ate the squid eagerly and chugged the beer. Another beer, another plate of food. Next on the agenda was a plate of salami that was really delicious.

Plaza de Espana really is great for tapas bars. Its extensive side streets offer a whole host of cercevias that produce their own nuggets of pure culinary genius. But be aware that the closer you go to Gran Via, the pricer things become. Plaza de Espana is the great mixture of classic Madrid and busy Spanish culture. Our bill totalled only €7, for 3 beers and 3 plates of fantastic food. So how come we didn’t stay there you might wonder? Just too many more bars to discover!

I was not able to stay in town any more I had to lesson plan. After getting home after quite a dizzy metro ride I sit down and start planning my business English lessons. Fill on tapas and content on caňas, this comes very easy. Another great evening! Here’s to the next time I go out in Madrid!

Travelling with children on safari holidays free activity download

Other Family Vacation Options

Our experience with Elephants while on safari in Africa

My wife and I love Africa and we couldn’t resist the temptation to visit our friends in Africa and visit the continent, when Juliette was nearly two years old we travelled from South Africa to Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia and Tanzania both the mainland and Zanzibar.

We had a splendid safari and actually had no trouble with finding food for our daughter or cots in the hotels etc. In fact the whole trip was just perfect. We were very careful to use mosquito nets, to cover her with a strong mosquito repellent she wasn’t bitten once in the whole trip.

So if you are thinking of travelling to Africa with your family but are worried whether your children will enjoy the safari and whether they will be safe, we hope you will be encouraged with our personal experiences. Our daughter Juliette has experienced safaris from a very young age and we have friends who have brought up their children in safari lodges so the simple answer is yes children do settle in extremely well to the wild but with some provisos.

Children tend to love the wildlife and a safari is usually a wonderful experience for children of all ages. It can get a bit long and hot for children so we have some suggestions for you;

  • take with you some animal spotting safari games
  • learn the Swahili names for the animals which will help the children build a relationship with your driver and should provide fun.
  • FREE to download are safari games available from the web, this will keep them busy.  We have a FREE children’s activity pack which you can view or download and print free of charge and includes a safari animal check list with Swahili animal names, plus some other fun stuff.

An amazing experience that we had and would like to mention because it might be useful for other parents travelling with young children while on safari…
We went on a night drive in Zambia in an open vehicle with other guests from the lodge. It ended up being one of the most amazing we have ever done. We found a young leopard and soon we were right in the centre of a herd of buffalo that was being ambushed by four female lions. The lions missed their prey. Our daughter in all the excitement began crying, within seconds the lions who typically view vehicles as just part of the landscape started to perceive the vehicle as a feasible prey, like a small animal in distress. It was lucky that our driver recognised the change and drove away quickly with a pack of lions following us.

Because the food in safari lodges are flexible you won’t have any problems with children’s food. In general there should be no problems keeping children occupied in their new and exciting world here they will come face to face with a different culture and also perhaps poverty for the first time, but I think the reality of Africa can play an important part in the education of our sometimes over protected children.

As far as safety is concerned we feel there is no real danger as long as the parents act sensibly. Certainly the first thing to do is sit down with your children before departure and explain that Africa is a different world from the one they are used to, where there is danger around. There is no need to exaggerate but camp rules must be obeyed, because if they’re not, the consequences can be serious. For very young children I propose you pick your camp carefully and make sure your travel advisor knows you are travelling with children so they can find the most suitable for children. We can guide you on this from personal experience as we have been on many safaris with our children. We also have a lot of information for going on safari & travelling in Africa

It is recommended that young children should not be vaccinated and are excused in most countries for yellow fever but truthfully I don’t feel this should be of concern. This is a rare disease which you should not come across in a safari lodge. The main illness concern is malaria as this is a problem through all tropical areas. The locals catch it frequently and it is frequently judged no worse than an attack of flu. Depending on the strain, it could be dangerous and the answer here is good prevention. Young children cannot take malaria tablets but please get advice from your doctor. Make sure that you apply mosquito repellent abundantly, covering up arms & legs before the sun goes down and make sure that the children sleep under mosquito nets. If you take these safety measures you can reduce the risk of malaria to almost zero.

Don’t be scared about taking your children to Africa,  it is a wonderful experience for them and we have been back with Juliette many times, but do cover them up well and no safaris in open vehicles for very small children

Note: The above information is advice given on the basis of the author’s experience at the time of writing and the author cannot take responsibility for any traveller choosing to take the advise above. Travellers should speak to their GP and take advice from the relevant authorities before travelling.

Making Scented Candles - 4 Tips for Creating Captivating Scented Masterpieces

Other Family Vacation Options

Aromatic candles will enhance the ambience of a room. If you are a soft, romantic person, you will enjoy the aroma of scented candles. Your guests will be intoxicated with calm and well being. As you will appreciate, the flickering glow of any candle heightens the elegance of a room.

The subtle fragrance of scented candles will pep you up, even while the candle is unlit. So when you come home tired and frazzled, the aroma & flickering glow of a scented wax candle will relieve your tightness & lift your spirits.

Scented candles are wonderful gifts for any occasion and/or season, especially when made by your own hands.

1. Pick Your {Fragrance For Candle Making}

Fragrance oil is available in virtually any craft shop. Also, you may buy it online. I would suggest that you opt for fragrance oils rather than going for inexpensive alcohol or water based fragrances. Since your wax mix will be oil based, your fragrance should also be oil based. Why? As oil & water do not mix, a water based perfume tends not to mix with oil based wax.

2. Pick Your Wax

The basics of {scented candle making} are more or less the same as for ordinary wax candles. Start by choosing your desired kind of wax. Available in the market is a versatile range of wax beginning with naturals from beeswax, palm or soy and moving along to paraffin or gel wax. It is important that you decide on the fragrance intensity for your candles before picking the kind of wax. For example, in case of gel candles, gel wax with less density holds less fragrance compared to gel wax with higher density.

3. The Art of Making Aromatic Candles

Let’s cover the method for making aromatic candles.

1st step is to melt your wax. I suggest using a double boiler. Which means put the wax in a small pot. Then put that container inside a slightly larger pot containing water. Now heat the H2O. Use a thermometer to avoid burning your wax. The temperature must be kept between 170 &180 degrees F.

Once the wax has melted, put a wick in the mold and remove your wax from the source of heat. Next add the fragrance oil that you’ve selected. A mixture of 1 ounce fragrance oil to 1 pound wax will produce a fragrance that permeates your candle up to 6% of its density. Greater amounts of fragrance oil will cause the candle to burn out quicker.

Now pour the melted wax/fragrance mixture into your mold. The only job remaining is to let it cool before removing your candle from it’s mold.

Congratulations, well done!

4. Experiment as You Go

You will develop expertise in all aspects of the candle craft when you start experimenting. By using different fragrances and colors, you will perfect the candle making technique and thoroughly enjoy the process.

It’s a great feeling to award your friends with a {homemade scented candle} knowing that they will find the fragrant essences both relaxing and invigorating.

Thanksgiving: A Time To Change

Other Family Vacation Options

Thanksgiving is that time of year when families and friends gather together to celebrate and give thanks for a year of life. It is a celebration that has some very deep roots and though many people commonly think the United States has the copyright on Thanksgiving, that is not the case. There are so many traditions associated with this holiday. Some automatically think of the Pilgrims and the first fall they held when they came to America. But Thanksgiving traditions can be extremely wide and varied. You do not have to stick with the same old turkey and stuffing recipes that have been in your family for decades. You can shake things up a bit and start your own tradition. In this article we will cover the basics of how Thanksgiving got started and even provide you with some help when it comes to celebrating your Thanksgiving this year.

When did Thanksgiving traditions get started?

In order to understand Thanksgiving traditions you have to first understand about Thanksgiving Day itself. Most US citizens believe that it first occurred at Plymouth Plantation when the Pilgrims first came to America. That first Thanksgiving occurred in 1621 and was a time of festivities between the newly arrived settlers and the surrounding Native American tribes. But did you know that it was not a recognized day until 1863 and did not become a national holiday until 1941. The premise behind the earliest Thanksgiving Days was simple: it was a time to celebrate the harvest. Farmers and workers spent all spring and summer toiling away in the fields so when it came harvest time they celebrated by gathering together with friends and family. The Native American contribution to the first Thanksgiving holds particular meaning because without their help the previous winter, the colonists would not have survived.

What are varying Thanksgiving traditions around the world?

Not every country has a Thanksgiving Day but they do celebrate similar days in similar fashions. Most countries have a harvest day that they celebrate each year. Though they may not be having turkey and stuffing, they each celebrate the end of summer and the coming of winter. Some countries have dances and festivals while others use it more as a religious observance and are thankful for the bounty that has been given to them.

What types of foods are served at Thanksgiving?

The types of food served at Thanksgiving vary depending on where you are at. In the Southern United States you will often find cornbread dressing, roast turkey, sweet potatoes with marshmallows and pecan pies served. In the Northern United States you may find ham, stuffing and a cranberry salad. The dishes vary as widely as the ethnicities that serve them. Different families have different Thanksgiving traditions that they uphold. So you may find deviled eggs, fruit pies, cornbread, deer/venison or even chicken being served. For those brave folks you can always serve a Turducken. Though it sounds funny it is actually a turkey stuffed with a duck that is stuffed with a chicken and stuffing. Each year it grows in popularity so it may not be long before you are serving it at your next Thanksgiving Day dinner.

Can Thanksgiving be a potluck event?

There are always going to be those masochistic souls that insist on cooking everything themselves. And if they are having many people over it becomes a monumental chore. But by making Thanksgiving a potluck, there is not as much backbreaking work that goes into the festivities. Most Thanksgiving traditions involve family members bringing their own “special” dishes that everyone seems to love. So if you are tired of cooking the entire meal by yourself, make it a potluck. You can even assign someone a particular category or food to prepare if they do not know what to bring. If you have a family member that makes the best lasagna around…ask them to bake it and bring it. If someone makes killer baked beans, they will appreciate that you love them so much and want them to bring them.

Save Money by using LED Holiday Lights Instead

Other Family Vacation Options

Shining a New Light on the Holidays

With the holiday season fast approaching, now is the time to consider switching out your old incandescent holiday lights for modern light-emitting diode (LED) lights. LED technology has been around for years as electronic indicators and easily adjustable signs. However, as higher output LEDs develop, they are being used more frequently in conventional lighting applications as well. From mobile flashlights to automotive headlights, LED lighting is becoming much more common throughout society, including as holiday lights.

LEDs Are More Energy Efficient

When compared to old-fashioned incandescent lights, LED Lights are much more energy-efficient. While the old lights are somewhat brighter, LED Lights consume much less electricity. This can amount to actual savings. Most incandescent holiday light strings use between 12- to 105-kilowatt hours of electricity, whereas similar sized LED strings use between one and three kilowatt hours. In real terms this means that by changing to LED lights, you can potentially save between $ 1 and $ 11 on your electricity bill for every month that your lights are turned on this holiday season.

LEDs Are More Durable

Beyond the savings on your electric bill, LED lights can also save you money because they are much more durable and do not have to be replaced as frequently as incandescent holiday lights. Unlike incandescent lights that create considerable heat (perhaps even dangerous amounts), LED lights stay far cooler, and that’s why they can be enclosed in plastic instead of glass. The result is that LED lights are more durable and are not as easy to break. LED lights will also burn longer than incandescent bulbs. Most incandescent light strings lose at least one bulb after about 1,000 hours of use, whereas LED lights tested by Consumer Reports managed to go for more than 4,000 hours without any of the bulbs burning out.

LEDs Are Also Safer

In that LED holiday lights burn at a much cooler temperature than incandescent ones, they also represent much less of a fire risk. There are some cases of LED recalls due to potential fire hazards, but they had more to do with wiring than the LEDs themselves. Therefore, it is important to make sure that the LED lights you purchase have been tested and certified by a legitimate testing laboratory like Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or Intertek (ETL). That said, major insurance companies and product testers agree LED lights are FAR less a risk for fire than incandescent holiday lights.

Look for Incentive Programs

The current trend toward greater energy efficiency has also resulted in two types of incentives meant to encourage you to buy LED holiday lights and both may save you even more money. The first type of incentive is getting offered by some retailers, like Home Depot. Incentives offer discounts to people that buy LED holiday lights and allows stores to capitalize on the trend by actively supporting energy efficient options. Some communities have aggressively taken on energy efficiency also are offering incentives. For example, in Anaheim, California, people who purchase LED holiday lights receive a free gift card to other businesses (Starbucks, Borders, etc.) as an incentive initiated by a local public utilities administration.
